The owners of this 1980’s home in Sammamish wanted to improve the layout of their kitchen while giving it a more contemporary feel. They had a good plan in mind for a kitchen remodel and Done to Spec helped make it happen. The original kitchen had lots of floor space, but counter space was limited…

The angled orientation of the island wasn’t ideal for cooking and prep work. It also extended into the family room and eating area more than it needed to. The location of the microwave and oven impeded flow into the kitchen.

To solve the space and traffic issues, Done to Spec removed the doorway to the left of the old oven/microwave and most of the wall to the right of the oven/microwave. The island was turned 45 degrees, so it aligned with the other cabinets. The refrigerator was moved to the other side of the doorway to create more counter space. A buffet/dry bar with lower cabinets replaced the desk to the left of the new refrigerator location. Cabinets are from Canyon Creek. Composite granite was used on the countertops as well as for the sink. Done to Spec took care of the rough and finish plumbing and installed the appliances.

Additional lighting and electrical outlets helped improve the functionality of the kitchen. Done to Spec installed switched outlets in the cabinets, so the homeowner could hookup LED tape lights under the cabinets. The LED tape provides a low profile (< 1/4″) which is good for under-cabinet situations. Some LED tape can also produce different colors that can be used for special occasions or Seahawks games.
